STANISLAVSKY RELOAD

Summer school in modern Russian method of acting
Three weeks at St.Petersburg State Institute of Performing Arts
June 24 to July 13, 2019
In English

3 credits in acting + 1 credit in art history
132 contact hours

The aim of this program is overcoming superficial reading of Stanislavsky and training of participants on the basis of fresh in-depth study of his method:

Overcoming consideration of “efficacy/activity” as the basic element of acting…

Priority of sensations instead of priority of actions…“Etude”-being as the ideal of the process and as the result of improvised creation…

Change of focus from the generally known manual Actor Prepares to the early discoveries by Stanislavsky (“affective memory”), and to his latest achievements in teaching (spontaneity and improvisation)…

Forgotten, censored and underestimated development of the Method: American branch (Lee Strasberg), outstanding  disciple and rival of Stanislavsky Nikolai Demidov…

Refusal of “rationalistic” system and turn to life Stanislavsky in his last five years…Clear subdivision of different kinds of creation – of an actor, of a director, joint creation…

In the class of art history the participants will get contextual knowledge of methodology of Russian artistic culture in several epochs:

“Golden Age”, “Silver Age”, revolution, avant-garde, futurism, Soviet times, perestroika…
